Birch Vale

Birch Vale Reservoir is our largest water. The scenery at this location is truly outstanding, set in the High Peak, the fishing is quite tough as the water is featureless save for the island in the centre.

The reservoir was orginally created to service the former printworks. A truly tranquil place to spend and afternoon, whatever, the weather or time of the year.

Directions:
This water is situated on the left hand side of the A6015 (New Mills to Hayfield Road), opposite the Grouse pub. It is also accessible by the back road through New Mills passing Watford Lodge. Birch Vale is open throughout the year.

Parking:
You are advised not to park on the road or in front of the pub. However, if you drive up the steep bank by the side of the Grouse there is ample parking available at the back of the pub.

From February 2012 - The landord has requested that DNMAC members wishing to park should do so on the left of the car park against the back wall as you enter it. He wants the rest of the car park for his customers, for the time being.

Environment and rules:
Juniors are not allowed to fish on the riverside bank of the reservoir unless they are accompanied by a Senior Member. The water is very deep on this side as indicated by the signs.

There is no fishing off the dam wall.

Live baiting is prohibited but spinners and pre-packed deadbaits are allowed. Anglers must be three pegs away from any other angler. Two rods may be used when fishing for pike but barbless hooks must be used and debarbed spinners.

Season:     Open all year.
Night Fishing:     Syndicate Members only. Syndicate rules apply. Waters closely monitored.
Species     Bream, Carp, Pike, Roach, Rudd, Tench and Trout. This is a prime pike venue with some very big fish to be caught. (No pike to be removed)
