History

Originally, it was thought that Disley and New Mills Angling Club was founded in the 1950's, by a small group of anglers that enjoyed the local fishing amenities. However, we have been recently informed (mid 2010) that this was not the case, in a letter posted by a former member who joined aged 11yrs in 1953.

It seems that senior members of that time, informed the aforementioned member that the club operated through the war years, 1939 - 1945, and ran by the Hon. Sec at the time, a Mr.S.Newton, who personally looked after all the clubs rents and costs. So we can speculate from this that the club is at least pre-1939.

c1953 - The club was small with two waters only:

The first, Disley Dam - at that time had an annual rent of 5 shillings, and was stocked with approximately 50 carp (Mirror & Leather) and Tench. Prior to this period its suggested that the stock were mainly Roach & Perch.

The second, Moorwood Reservoir had an annual rent of £5.

c1960's period - A difficult period, the club nearly collapsed due to lack of members, and was kept running by M.Stanway, Mr.D.Moss and others. Thanks to them the club survived this period.

Today, DNMAC is affiliated to the N.F.A. and the A.C.A, and has approximately 600 members, with a substantial number of fisheries. The club offers membership to anyone who is looking to enjoy and improve the quality of their angling skills and at the same time promote the interests in the sport as well as the protection of the environment both for its members and the public. The club comittee and members meets every third Thursday in the month with the exception of August 6, meeting starts at 20.00hrs, see your club card for more details. We welcome members to attend and help the committee.
