River Goyt from the bridge at Strines

[picture1012 image]

This stretch of water, is off the B6101, between Marple and New Mills at Strines. Coming from New Mills the turn off is on the right, down Station Road, just before you reach the shops.Coming from Marple the turn is on the left just after the shops. There is a sign opposite Station Road pointing to the station.Go down Station Road over the bridge and park immediately on the left, adjacent to Dovecote Lodge which used to belong to the Tootal Textile company. Behind you and to the left of the bridge is a low wall which is the entrance to the DNMAC water. Apparently there used to be a style here but it is no longer present. Find the shortest drop and proceed over the field along the bank to the next style in the fence. If you don't fancy the climb down, you can walk up to the farm and to the right of the farmhouse there is a green gate which you can use to enter the field and walk down to the river, apparently it is quite boggy. Please note the farmhouse is not the house that faces you when you walk down towards the station, it lies to the right, there is a small caravan park to the left and behind it.This stretch of water is DNMAC's up to the weir.
